Surprises aren’t my favorite thing but when done correctly, they are cute. Like you mentioned, a surprise coffee or flowers or small gift is always nice. A surprise trip or changing the whole day out from under me is not nice. The only time that kind of surprise for me is okay is when they let me know, “Hey. I have a surprise for you this day.” Leave the rest to the imagination (to a certain degree) but taking me out of work in the middle of the day with no prior notice while we are already stressing things AND I realize you talked to my boss? That’s just too far for me, personally.
