Here's a thought. If you'd have called those people and said “I'm really sorry, but GF has been uninvited and I'm not prepared to leave her on her own after being dropped by a friendship group. I'm sure you understand” I have a feeling they'd would have sympathised. This was not a situation of your making (or your GFs) so those other friends can voice their frustration to the instigators, not the victims.
