No it doesn't sound reasonable at all.
Is it??? A “thoughtful” gift implies you considered the recipient’s preferences whereas it seems you’re suggesting the recipient should completely disregard any preferences they had when presented with a gift, no matter how thoughtless. The phrase “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth” doesn’t really apply here; the issue here is not the quality of the horse (ie, checking the horse which you otherwise like for the quality of the teeth) but whether the recipient wanted that particular horse at all.
It seems like you just don’t think women are allowed to have opinions or something.
