I don't see a problem with work ethic he's just smart enough to know that coming in 1 minute late and working the whole day means nothing on a point system. He could come in everyday he was late and still get fired if he goes over on points.
The issue is his sleeping and ability to wake up. We don't know if he has a sleep disorder or if he's just an idiot who stays up to late. At this point it's a simple fix she needs to discuss a better, and more routine, schedule. They need to be sure he gets 8-9 hours of sleep and see if that fixes the problem and if not seek medical intervention to figure out why he can't wake up on time. It's not always just being a jerk sometimes there are serious underlying issues.
OP if you do love you bf you need to work on making what's needed clear and work with him to find a solution. If he won't work with you on getting enough sleep or seeking medical intervention if that doesn't work then work on an existing plan.
