Well, it sounds like you can either wait around for him to decide whether or not he wants to have a relationship, or you can tell him this arrangement won't work for you. Had you guys been together for a significant amount of time? Six months is a pretty long time to break up for….and he said he “lost” his love for you?
From the outside, it looks like he wants to break up but he doesn't know if he will find better so he wants to break up with you and have you not see anyone in case he has regret about it. He figures if his feelings don't return within 6 months, he will just break up with you for good. He still wants you to be committed to him, but he isn't offering to meet any of *your* needs. He is only caring about his own needs right now.
There is a chance that in 6 months, he will decide he wants to try this relationship again – but I don't think it is fair to you to wait around and put your life on hold for a “maybe.” It also seems like he may do this again next time a conflict resolution doesn't work out the way he wants?
