I don't get rid of photos, to be honest. I've still got plenty in my camera reel with old exes and it's never been an issue. If he were saving intimate photos and sexts and whatnot I'd be a little concerned by that, but a regular photo that just happens to have his ex in it isn't necessarily a big deal.
Something to keep in mind is that for all of those photos he was there too, so whatever the event of the day was it was something that he also experienced and might like to keep a memory of even if he's no longer dating the other person in the photo.
Case in point, I went to Shanghai with an ex for a week many many years ago. Lots of photos of that in the cloud or whatever. Never been to Shanghai since, so I like those photos because they're of a unique trip. The fact that I'm no longer with the girl in them isn't a big deal, and I didn't feel any particular need to delete them all just because someone I used to date is in the background of a few of them.
