OP this is so sweet. You and your husband are clearly in love! I agree with some of the above statements- ask him what HE wants. Maybe he wants to start collecting something, maybe he'd really love a cuddly toy/plushies now and again. Maybe he'd want quality time. Love notes are also a super good idea! Hide them in random places too so he finds them randomly 🙂

OP, I hope you can takeaway some useful things here. You might be the most supportive in the family of his social transition but you are also the person least against his medical transition, but what you have said to him is absolutely against it.
What he may hear is, “We are fine using the language you want, but you can not change medically because your grandparents will be too upset. That relationship is more important us than what you are currently feeling.” You need to stand up son to his grandparents.
