I think it would be inappropriate for you to ask these people to change their lifestyle to suit you.
Personally, I would not enjoy socializing with them and I would definitely spend less time and focus on other friendships. It is just that asking them to change something that they are not unhappy with is quite self absorbed.

You don't need a reason to break up. You don't need to justify wanting to end a relationship. If you don't want to be there anymore, don't stay. Your reasons are valid no matter what they are, and no matter what these comments are saying. You deserve a partner that you're excited about, and this guy deserves someone who wants to be with him and sees him as a catch. That's not you.
If it's not working for you, sit down and tell him and give him some time to find a new place. Like a month or two at most, unless he can just move in with a family member or friend right away. Living with your ex is not fun.
I would say something along the lines of “This is not working for me anymore and this relationship has run its course.”Be gentle but make it very clear. Don't make excuses and leave room for arguing where he can say” I'll change” because it's obviously too late.

Yeah I know it wouldn't be fair to Troy. When I wrote this I was forgetting we're on the same team. I love how chill and trusting he is and I shouldn't expect him to react and take action like I would in if the roles were reversed.
However there have been a time or two when he asked me to step in or be close to him because a woman was acting out of line and I am happy to do so. He doesn't reciprocate this.
