I'm like this too, but my sister isn't. She is younger than me and doesn't remember growing up with our mother going hungry and us eating bologna sandwiches and Kraft dinner all the time. She turned out to be a spoiled little princess who bleeds my mother dry for all she demands and throws enormous and dramatic tantrums if my mom can't indulge her, and I turned out to be an intense toilet-paper hoarder (lol) who refuses to ask my mom for a dime no matter how desperate I am.
My toilet paper thing was a bit of a thing earlier in my life, but then I went through a period of time where I was so short on money I didn't have any money for food so I was drinking a ton of tea to sate my hunger – which lead to me running through my toilet paper like crazy. I didn't have money for food, let alone toilet paper, so I had to start using rags.
After things got stable again my toilet paper collection is on the heavy-handed side.
It's really fascinating how different we are with our money where it was just a handful of years difference in our financial situation. She blows through hers like it's her last day on earth and has a green-eyed-monster streak to her. I'm definitely the frugal one… And more generous when I have extra, because I just know what it's like.
