Stop making excuses for him hitting you. Stop saying “your MIL influenced him” and thinking he will just go back to the way he was before she was there. You are with an abusive man that has manipulated you to see differently until you were in a position where he felt he had you trapped. That much is clear. Your MIL is not influencing him, this is who he is. He does not care if your son gets beat and he doesn’t care if he beats you. Why would you be with a man that would choose his mother over you and your son anyway?? You need to take your son, get a lawyer, file for custody whether that be full or partial, and get out. Maybe even file a police report for hitting you if possible. Be sure to put in the custody order that spanking is not allowed and get your child into a professional psychologist/psychiatrist so if he tells someone that daddy or grandma hits him, you have more than just your own word. You are in a war to protect yourself and your son now and getting rid of your MIL will not end that war, do not be mistaken.
