At the heart of the problem is your dad sees conflict only as win/lose. And when people see conflict only as win/lose they’ll use whatever advantage they have to avoid losing. So when he’s upset he attacks rather than negotiates. Google how to turn complaints into requests to understand what the healthy thing is that he doesn’t do. And when you’re upset he gets defensive. Google defensiveness in relationships to understand this part of the problem.

   In general, when there’s conflict in healthy relationships, power is shared, each person’s feelings should be treated as just as important, not more than, not less than, but just as important. So one side shares their perspective, receives validation, then the other side shares and gets the same. After that, solutions that work for both are explored and then implemented. Regardless of the situation the only side he respects is his. So when he has more power he uses it to win, regardless of how it impacts you. When he has less power (like now) he’ll be nice but only until he has power again, then he’ll go back to previous behavior. It’s sad because people like this could benefit from therapy and could learn different conflict resolution skills, but because they’re so defensive they rarely recognize the problems they cause. You’d be best to go low contact with him. And it’s quite likely he’ll never acknowledge let alone apologize for how much he hurt you. Which is probably all you want, because if he did that you’d probably forgive him everything. I’m so sorry OP.
