Cheating isn’t just one thing. Some people actively go out and seek hook ups or relationships while in a relationship, without telling their partner(s). That is very much a values thing.
But a lot of the time life is messy, people are human, and yes being in an emotionally vulnerable place, and/or in a relationship that isn’t meeting your emotional needs can absolutely be a significant factor in why someone cheats.
I was in the middle of writing a whole long more when I realized the best way to explain it is this:
Some people are killers. Serial killers, murder for hire, people who join the military so they can go shoot people. But most people who kill someone are not like that.
