I’ve been working for 25 years at various companies. There is one reason why SOs wouldn’t be allowed, and that’s if the company is paying for it. I’ve worked at a few companies where offsite gatherings can be passed off as work meetings and expensed. Especially if they are being passed off as offsite meeting/team bonding. However, once a non-employee joins, it’s now a social gathering and the company will not reimburse.
