  1. If any of my friends humiliated my wife like this, they’d be shitting out their teeth because I’d have knocked them down their throat.

Also, OP, I have developed this theory over my adult life, and I think you should consider it.

When we are attracted to someone, have romantic feelings or love someone, we have a naked time seeing their big flaws/red flags. This happens because our brain surges with the awesome chemicals when we’re around or communicating with someone we have feelings for. Feels nice, huh? But it clouds our ability to make a truly objective assessment of that person. We just want those good chemicals. But here’s the deal: 100% of the time that I’ve met a date’s or partner’s friends and they suck, I have later figured out that they themselves suck too.

If you lose your objectivity because of the good chemicals, then you can’t accurately assess if they suck or not. But, people who have a bunch of friends that suck, they usually suck also. Because of course they would suck if they value all of these crappy people. We can EASILY see that their friends suck because those friends aren’t causing all the good chemicals. We can assess their behavior and their actions and make a truly unbiased assessment of if they suck or not. But with our love interest, we can’t be objective because our judgment is clouded.

The moral of the story here is that if their close friends suck, and you can see that, then almost ALWAYS, the person sucks too and you can’t see it.

This theory has been true for me every time, and it’s been true for everyone I’ve told about this theory. You should really consider what him having these people as friends really says about him. This assessment can also be aided by some brutal self honesty. Start thinking back and all they’ve done, and try to view that from an objective lens. I’d bet there are other indications that he sucks that you haven’t been able to see because of the brain-fogging love hormones. I think if you can really get honest with yourself, you’ll discover that he’s not quite the man you thought he was.
