You didn’t include the fact that you have met no one in his life, at all, in your post. Only that you have not met his family, and my perspective was based on that.
It is obviously an entirely different situation if you have met no one, at all, not even a friend. But again, you didn’t state that in your post.
And yes, your default position in a relationship should be that you trust that your partner is being honest with you. If you don’t trust that your partner isn’t being honest, if they have done nothing to give you a reason not to trust them, then you shouldn’t be in that relationship. You should be able to trust your partner.
You decided that his reasons for not wanting to introduce him to his family were not legitimate, (which is not your decision to make) and have therefore decided that because the reasons he gave you are not good enough (in your opinion) that he is obviously lying to you & so you are justified in not trusting him.
If he is honest with you in every other aspect of your relationship then you should trust that he is being honest with you now, or that he is telling you as much as you need to know.
It all comes down to two simple things.
You are not entitled to know every aspect of his life, nor are you are not owed an explanation beyond what he has already given you.
You either trust that he is being honest or would tell you something if you needed to know it, or you don’t. If you don’t trust your partner, then why are you with them. Trust in a relationship should be given, not earned.
